Swedish Massage

imageSwedish Massage is a very relaxing and therapeutic style of bodywork. Oils, gel, or lotion are applied to the skin and strokes such as effleurage, pertrissage, rolling, kneading, and percussion to help the body improve circulation, release toxins, decrease muscle aches and general body tensions caused by stress and fatigue to reduce pain.

Swedish massage can be combined with other techniques for maxium effect, and this work usually follows a consistently specific routine from front to back with some variations by practioners. Relaxation, a sense of wellbeing, and brighter perspective are often cited as benefits.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep Tissue Massage is a form of bodywork that aims to relieve tension in the deeper layers of tissue in the body. Deep Tissue Massage is a highly effective method for releasing chronic stress areas due to misalignment, repetitive motions, and past lingering injuries. Due to the nature of the deep tissue work, open communication during the session is crucial to make sure you don't get too uncomfortable. Keep in mind that soreness is pretty common after the treatment, and that plenty of water should be ingested to aid with the flushing and removal of toxins that will have been released from the deep tissue during the session.

Sometimes Deep Tissue is misperceived as a "harder", more aggressive touch, In reality, it is a philosophy of work that utilizes an understanding of muscle layers and skeletal structures and how they perform, interact, and can release with this work to create more joint spacing, losen blocks, and restore movement. Often Deep Tissue sessions focus on a few troubled areas, not the entire body, and may require additional sessions and other technqiues like feather light Neuromuscular, Myofacsial, Range of Motion and collaborative CRAC to support change.

Chair Massage

Chair massage is a popular way of relieving stress and releasing tension right in your home or workplace. You receive your massage in a specialized ergonomic chair which I bring to your location. This form of bodywork is done over the clothing. With this form of seated massage, you can avoid the discomfort and awkwardness that you may feel in disrobing for a traditional massage. Also, chair massage sessions are shorter than traditional massage, making it convenient enough to fit into your busy schedule.(I generally offer chair massage at specific events or professional locations as benefit to staff.I do not keep a chair at my studio.)

Polarity Therapy

Polarity therapy is a type of bodywork which is focused on the energy fields of the body, rather than the physical body itself. Sometime we refre to this work as accupuncture with fingers, and is a form of energy work. The practitioner attempts to adjust the skewed energy fields of the body and bring them into balance. During a polarity therapy session, the therapist and client usually work together in a very calm, relaxed environment. I generally fold some of the pathways into my sessions and find clients benefit particularly from fire down for stress, anger and headaches, air and water tridoshas, as well as brachial plexis have benefit for breathing, a feeling of calm, and less tension in back and shoulders. Some of the polarity in the feet additionally supports the balancing of energy and systems.

Reiki

Reiki is a Japanese form of energy work that cleanses and balances the energy system in the body. As a result, the body's natural self-healing mechanisms strengthen, helping to establish optimum health. During a session, I work directly with your energy field to remove blockages, detoxify your system, and restore your vital life force energy. Reiki utilizes a gentle laying on of hands to conduct the necessary energy force between us. The benefits of Reiki range from the release of habitual mental/emotional stress to alleviating chronic pain.

Neuromuscular Therapy

Neuromuscular therapy is a system of massage techniques that employ minimal pressure' practioner uses fingers or thumbs in parallel, crossing, or v-shaped motions on small areas of muscle which may be too sore to massage any other way. It relaxes the clients working through the nervous systems, and enhances our own ability to self-heal through the release of endorphines, countering the stress hormones cortisol and adrenal which contribute to muscle soreness, joint pains, and tension. This work is wonderful for extra painful areas, clients with fibermyalgia, past injuries or joint aches. I find clients with a variety of complaints enjoy this work and find it effective in combined sessions when needed. For example, shoulder knots and muscles of the neck often need to be addressed in this manner rather than Deep Tissue to avoid injury and provide relief.

Reflexology

During reflexology, practioners apply pressure to specific nerve zones or pionts in your feet, (hands or ears) travelling from one area to another. It can be used to investigate and locate discomforts within our internal systems, and pain in the spine. It releases toxins, can be used to assist with lymph, endocrine, and nervous systems. Allergies, headaches, and depression can be effectively alleviated through refkexology.image
